A: Office hours are Monday thru Friday 10 AM to 5:30 PM but you have 24-hour access to your storage unit.

Q: How do I contact you?

Q: How long is the rental agreement?

A: We have a one month minimum then after that you can rent month to month. If you sign a one-year lease, you can get the 13th month for free.

Q: Do I have to pay a full month’s rent if I rent in the middle of the month?

A: No, we prorate your first month’s rent. Your rent will be calculated on the day you sign the lease.

Q: Do you charge a deposit?

A: Yes, $30.00 deposit is needed when you sign the lease for Cedar Rapids or Hiawatha. There is a $50.00 deposit in Iowa City. Your deposit is refunded in full, if the storage unit is left in good condition.

Q: Is a lock provided when I rent a unit?

A: We do not provide a lock in Cedar Rapids or Hiawatha, but are able to purchase a high security disc lock from our main office. In Iowa City we provide you with a lock and 3 keys.

Q: Do you send invoices?

A: No we do not send any invoices or monthly statement.

Q: When is rent due?

A: Rent is due the first day of the month. There is a 10-day grace period.

Q: How do I make a payment?

A: We accept cash, check, money order or credit card. We have flexible payment options. You can: Mail payment to 288 Blairs Ferry Rd, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402, Drop payment off in the drop box the Blairs Ferry office or in Iowa City. Stop in to pay with cash, check or credit card. We accept Visa, Master Card and Discover. You can go on-line to our web site, bluelagoonia.com to pay with a credit card.

Q: What information do I need to bring to rent a unit?

A: A valid driver’s license or picture ID, and payment.

Q: Do I have to give notice before I move out?

A: Yes, you must notify us 10 days before moving out.

Q: What can’t I store?

A: The following items are not allowed: You can not live in the unit, food, animals, nothing flammable, explosives or illegal.

Q: How should I store my items?

A: Use a high-quality disc lock to secure your storage unit. Store your items in protective bins. Place something like a bottle cap, under the legs of furniture to prevent absorption of any condensation. Place more frequently used items close to the door, Place valuable items toward the back of your storage unit, Create an isle down the middle of your unit if you need to access your items often, Stack lighter items on top of heavier items, Label your boxes/totes. Wrap all fragile items separately. Pack these items tightly into reinforced boxes. Mark items as fragile as needed. Cover mattresses and furniture with sheets or a plastic covering. Do not store any hazardous materials such as gasoline, flammable materials, explosives, etc.… Do not store perishables.

Q: When can I access my storage unit?

A: You can access your storage unit 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Q: How do I determine the size of storage unit?

A: We have a variety of storage unit sizes ranging from 5×10 to 10×40. Click here for more information on the sizes.

Q: Do you offer outdoor storage?

A: Sorry no, not at this time.

Q: Can I have an auction or garage sale out of my unit?

A: Sorry, this is not allowed.

Q: Do I need insurance?

A: The items you store are not covered by our insurance. Blue Lagoon Storage is not responsible for any loss or damage to your property. We suggest you check coverage on your homeowner’s or renter’s policy.

Q:Does Blue Lagoon provide a lock for the storage space?

A:In Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha each tenant provides the lock for their own unit. Plug Locks in Iowa City are provided. You can purchase the required stainless steel disc lock from us for $9.

Q:How do I pay my monthly bill?

A:We give you several options to make your monthly payment. You can mail your payment by check or money order to: 288 Blairs Ferry Road NE Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. With our AutoPay program, we can automatically debit your checking or savings account each month. Of course, you can always stop by our office on Blairs Ferry Road to pay your bill by cash, check, debit or credit card (MC, Visa, Discover, or AMEX) . Office hours are 10:00 am - 5:30 pm Monday-Friday. We also accept online credit card payments here.

Q: Am I renting the space month-to-month?

A: Your contract is a month-to-month agreement with Blue Lagoon. You can move out whenever you want after you fulfill the one month minimum.

Q: Do you require a 30 day notice to move out?

A: Blue Lagoon only requires a 10 day notice to move out. If a move out notice is not given, the client is responsible for an additional 10 days of rent.

Q: Who is responsible for the contents of my unit?

A: The tenant is responsible for securing insurance on their belongings. Blue Lagoon offers insurance through a third party, which can be added at any time. See office for details.

Q: Can we put items directly on the floor?

A: We suggest the use of wood strips (or pallets) on the floor to prevent any moisture. If you are using a combination of plastic containers and cardboard, place the card board boxes on top of the plastic containers.

Q: When is my rent due and what happens if I am late?

A: Rent is due on, or before the 1st of each month. Blue Lagoon does offer a ten day grace period. If the rent is not paid by the 10th, on the 11th day, late fees will be added to your account and you will be denied access to your unit. You will need to pay your rent in full to have access to your unit.
